About Catchpool

The Catchpool Stud is located in Llangennith, a small village on the Gower peninsula of South West Wales. Specialising in breeding quality Ridden ponies over 38″ now Catchpool Shetlands (as of 2013) and quality miniatures under 34″ now Catchpuddle Shetlands.

Around the Stud

2015 has been a busy year already! Having sold 10 ponies between January and March to try and get a more manageable number (which we have nearly done!)

Show season is under – way and so far Brinleyview Camanchee was Supreme Champion at the South West Wales Shetland Group show on the 26th April with his son winning the large 2/3 year old class, having been graded for the BSPA the week before. He then made his way down to Debbie Barr who took him to his first BSPA RIHS qualifier on the 10th May at the South Suffolk Show, which he won, he also won the D/E/S RIHS qualifier – that is two RIHS tickets in one day!

Having decided to breed standards, from 2013 all miniatures bred by the Stevens Family will now be Catchpuddle and all Standards will be Catchpool. (After all the puddle is smaller than the Pool!!!)

Chris and Lara decided to follow in my footsteps and Catchpuddle Shetlands was founded. Though starting with just two foundation mares ‘Mme d’Isle of Catchpool’ and ‘Diamante of Catchpool’ it is already finding success now with 5 home-bred mares.
